More competition in the skies over Northern Peru! SKY Airline has been flying between Lima and Talara since October 2, 2026. This gives LATAM a new competitor on the important route to the north coast.
Four flights per week – soon to be daily
SKY is starting with four flights per week between Lima and Talara. Flights are offered on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. The service is expected to grow to five weekly connections as early as November. Finally, from December to February, daily flights are planned.
Airbus A320neo aircraft with up to 186 seats will be used. The seasonal service is currently scheduled to run until February 28, 2027. SKY expects more than 30,000 passengers during the season.
Talara has long been a popular flight route
The route sees a high volume of traffic. According to the Peruvian Ministry of Transport, more than 146,000 passengers flew between Lima and Talara between January and July 2026 alone. By the end of the year, more than 267,000 travelers are expected. That would be about 2.2 percent more than in 2025.
SKY is expected to carry about 15,400 passengers on this route between October and December alone. The airline is entering a market that has previously been served exclusively by LATAM on this route.
Directly on to Máncora and the beaches
For vacationers, Talara is primarily the gateway to some of the most famous destinations on Peru's north coast. Máncora, Los Órganos, Vichayito, Lobitos, and Punta Sal are accessible from here via the Panamericana Norte.
This makes the airport particularly attractive for travelers who want to continue quickly to the north coast after arriving in Lima. Instead of traveling the entire distance to the north by land, the largest part of the journey can be covered by domestic flight.
LATAM faces competition
It is important to note: The Lima–Talara route itself is not new. What is new is the entry of SKY Airline. With a second major provider, there is a greater choice of flight times and fares. However, whether the additional competition will result in permanently lower ticket prices remains to be seen.
For the Piura region, the expansion of flight connections is also economically interesting. The Ministry of Transport points to around 2.7 million trips in domestic Peruvian tourism recorded by Piura in 2025. This corresponded to 5.8 percent of the total nationwide volume.
The timing matches the summer season
SKY is increasing frequencies just as the summer season on the north coast is picking up speed. From December onwards, many travelers are drawn to the beaches around Máncora, Vichayito, and Los Órganos. During these months, the aircraft are scheduled to fly daily between Lima and Talara.
For Northern Peru, the entry of SKY primarily means more flights, more seats, and more choice. And for travelers, Talara becomes even more attractive as a quick access point to the coast.
