What is a Sapa Inca?

The Sapa Inca was the supreme ruler of the Inca Empire. You can imagine him a bit like a king. But for the people in the Inca Empire, he was even more: He had power, responsibility, and significant religious importance.

The center of the empire was Cusco in Peru. From there, roads, fields, cities, festivals, and many important decisions were organized.
