Perusina and Perusino take you into the world of the Inca rulers. Who was Manco Cápac? Why was Cusco so important? And why was a ruler called Sapa Inca? Here you'll find the 13 Sapa Incas simply explained.

What is a Sapa Inca?
The Sapa Inca was the supreme ruler of the Inca Empire. You can imagine him a bit like a king. But for the people in the Inca Empire, he was even more: He had power, responsibility, and significant religious importance.
The center of the empire was Cusco in Peru. From there, roads, fields, cities, festivals, and many important decisions were organized.

Cusco was the Heart of the Empire
Cusco was especially important to the Inca. From there, roads led in different directions. This allowed messengers, goods, and news to travel throughout the empire.
The Inca Empire was called Tawantinsuyu. It consisted of four large parts. Cusco was at the center of this world.
