Pope Leo XIV in Santa Cruz de Succhabamba and Chiclayo: Visitor schedule for November 14, 2026

Pope Leo XIV on November 14, 2026: Visitor plan for Santa Cruz de Succhabamba and Chiclayo with mass, schedule, access, and practical information.

Pope Leo XIV in Santa Cruz de Succhabamba and Chiclayo faces another big day of his Peru trip on November 14, 2026. Following his visit to Pimentel, his program first leads him to a church appointment in Chiclayo and then by helicopter to the Cajamarca region. There, he will celebrate a large mass in Santa Cruz de Succhabamba at 11:00 a.m. In the late afternoon, a prayer meeting will follow at the Santuario de Santo Toribio de Mogrovejo.

For visitors, two events are particularly interesting on this day: the mass at 11:00 a.m. in Santa Cruz de Succhabamba and the prayer meeting at 5:30 p.m. at the Santuario de Santo Toribio de Mogrovejo.

08:00 a.m.: The day begins in Chiclayo

The fourth day of the visit begins at 08:00 a.m. with the coronation rite of the Virgen Inmaculada in the Catedral de Santa María. Pope Leo XIV will deliver a sermon there. However, he must be at the Chiclayo air base by 09:10 a.m., from where the helicopter will depart for Santa Cruz de Succhabamba.

For visitors, the crucial question is therefore what access regulations apply to the cathedral. General open participation for an unlimited number of visitors cannot yet be inferred from the official program. Anyone looking exclusively for the safest opportunity to see Pope Leo XIV in person should therefore not base their planning solely on this early event. Further information on the region can be found on the PeruMagazin page for the Departamento Lambayeque.

By helicopter to Santa Cruz de Succhabamba

At 09:10 a.m., the helicopter takes off from the air base in Chiclayo. Landing at the helipad in Santa Cruz de Succhabamba in the Cajamarca region is scheduled for 09:50 a.m. Arrival at the landing site itself should not be planned as a public event. For visitors, the subsequent mass is the deciding appointment.

Especially for travelers from Chiclayo, it is important: The Pope flies, visitors must travel overland. Those who wish to attend the mass cannot use the Pope’s travel schedule as a basis for their own journey. An overview of the target region is provided by PeruMagazin at Departamento Cajamarca.

11:00 a.m.: Large Papal Mass in Santa Cruz de Succhabamba

At 11:00 a.m., Pope Leo XIV will celebrate Holy Mass on the Esplanade of Santa Cruz de Succhabamba. The Pope will also give the sermon there. This event is the major public highlight of the morning and the most important opportunity for visitors to see Leo XIV outside of Chiclayo that day.

Those wishing to attend the mass should be in Santa Cruz de Succhabamba early. For an event of this size, one must expect security checks, cordoned-off areas, and traffic measures. The final entrances, checkpoints, and possible spectator areas have not yet been fully released.

Visitors should therefore not attempt to time their arrival for just before 11:00 a.m. The decisive factor will be when the event grounds actually open and at what point authorities restrict traffic around the esplanade.

Is the trip from Chiclayo worth it?

For visitors from Chiclayo, the mass is generally accessible, but the distance should not be underestimated. Santa Cruz de Succhabamba is located in the Cajamarca department and not directly next to Chiclayo. The crucial difference from the Pope is that Leo XIV covers the distance by helicopter. Visitors, on the other hand, are dependent on road connections.

Those who want to reliably reach the mass should therefore seriously consider arriving the day before. Staying overnight in the region can also prevent road closures or exceptionally heavy traffic in the morning from jeopardizing participation.

Back to Chiclayo after the mass

At 01:15 p.m., Pope Leo XIV will leave Santa Cruz de Succhabamba again by helicopter. His arrival at the Base Aérea Teniente Coronel Pedro Ruiz Gallo in Chiclayo is scheduled for 02:00 p.m. Both appointments take place in areas not intended as public event venues for regular visitors.

This creates a long gap in visitor planning until the next major program item in the late afternoon. Those who attend the mass in Santa Cruz themselves should not, however, expect to be able to return to Chiclayo as quickly as the Pope.

05:30 p.m.: Prayer meeting in honor of Santo Toribio de Mogrovejo

At 05:30 p.m., the second major event of the day follows. At the Santuario de Santo Toribio de Mogrovejo, Pope Leo XIV will meet the Catholic community to mark the conclusion of the jubilee year of Santo Toribio de Mogrovejo. The Pope will give an address during this encounter.

For visitors in the Chiclayo region, this event is particularly interesting because no long trip to Santa Cruz de Succhabamba is necessary. However, which areas of the sanctuary and its surroundings will be opened to the general public, and whether access passes are required for certain areas, has yet to be definitively announced.

More on the Pope's stay in the region can be found in the already published PeruMagazin article Pope Leo XIV returns to Chiclayo: This is the program for his visit in November.

Santa Cruz and Chiclayo on the same day?

On paper, there are six and a half hours between the start of the mass at 11:00 a.m. and the prayer meeting at 5:30 p.m. For Pope Leo XIV, the transfer is easily possible because he flies back to Chiclayo by helicopter at 01:15 p.m.

For regular visitors, the situation is different. After the mass, they must first leave the event grounds and then drive back towards Chiclayo by road. If there is a high volume of visitors, even the departure from Santa Cruz and potential traffic regulations may take additional time.

Anyone who absolutely wants to attend both events should therefore wait for the final traffic and security plans. Without this information, it would be irresponsible to promise trouble-free attendance at both appointments.

What does participation cost?

The church events of the papal visit are generally intended to be free of charge. This does not mean, however, that every area of an event will be accessible without checks. For large papal events, security zones, prior registrations, or access passes may be established.

The final announcements for the mass in Santa Cruz de Succhabamba and the afternoon prayer meeting are therefore decisive. Visitors should not buy tickets from unknown third-party providers for supposed official entry.

What is not yet definitively known?

For November 14, several practical details that will be important for visitors are still missing. These include opening times for the mass grounds in Santa Cruz de Succhabamba, exact entrances, security checks, potential access passes, parking options, bus and shuttle services, and road closures.

Final visitor areas and access regulations also remain to be published for the Santuario de Santo Toribio de Mogrovejo. PeruMagazin will add this information as soon as the responsible authorities and church organizers publish their final visitor plans.

Where can visitors see Pope Leo XIV on November 14?

The Holy Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Santa Cruz de Succhabamba is the most important confirmed public event of the morning. For visitors who are already in the region or can plan an overnight stay, it is the central appointment.

Those remaining in Chiclayo should primarily plan for the prayer meeting at 5:30 p.m. at the Santuario de Santo Toribio de Mogrovejo. Final access and security information is still required for both events.
