LiuGong is making the country a hub for its expansion into Latin America – and Trujillo is playing a key role in this.
A Chinese industrial group is making a big bet on Peru! The heavy machinery giant LiuGong is significantly expanding its business in the country. In the future, Peru is intended to serve as a central base for Spanish-speaking markets in Latin America. Chile and Colombia, among others, are next on the agenda.
LiuGong has long been represented in the country. The company is said to have sold more than 1,500 machines in Peru over the past decade. Now, the next step follows.
New headquarters instead of just distribution
For around 15 years, LiuGong operated in Peru primarily through the distribution partner Fullen. In 2026, the Chinese company established its own subsidiary, which was officially opened in Lima on August 28, 2026.
With this, LiuGong aims to get closer to its customers – especially the country's large mining companies. Instead of relying exclusively on a distribution partner, the manufacturer is building its own structures for sales, spare parts, maintenance, and technical service.
Callao to be expanded
Logistics are also being upgraded. In Callao, LiuGong operates a transit warehouse of approximately 3,000 square meters, which can accommodate about 50 machines. In addition, there is another 1,500 square meters of warehouse space for spare parts.
But it is not intended to stop there. LiuGong plans to double or even triple its existing capacities. Additional sales and logistics structures are planned for the north, center, and south of Peru.
Trujillo gets a China center
Particularly interesting for northern Peru: Trujillo is part of the expansion plans. LiuGong intends to establish technical training centers in Trujillo, Lima, and Arequipa. Specialists are to be trained there in the maintenance and operation of modern construction machinery.
At the same time, the Chinese company is working with SENATI. A key focus is on electric machinery and the training of specialists capable of maintaining and servicing this new technology.
The Chinese want to tap into Peru's mining sector
This is where the big business lies. Peru is one of the world's significant mining countries. Heavy machinery is required for the extraction and transport of copper, gold, and other raw materials – and that is exactly where LiuGong wants to become stronger.
The company sells wheel loaders, excavators, bulldozers, motor graders, and heavy transport vehicles. At the same time, the Chinese are pushing into the market with large, electrically powered machines. LiuGong states that it has already sold approximately 25,000 fully electric machines worldwide.
According to the manufacturer, operating costs for some models can be reduced by nearly 70 percent. However, the actual level of savings depends on the specific application, energy prices, and the utilization rate of the machines.
200 machines in 2026 alone
LiuGong also has clear sales targets. The manufacturer is aiming for around 200 machines sold in Peru in 2026. Their own subsidiary is intended to help, particularly in serving major clients directly and making spare parts, maintenance, and technical service available more quickly.
The company has not yet disclosed how much money LiuGong intends to spend in total on its expansion in Peru. What is clear, however, is that warehouse space, service, and technical training are to be significantly expanded.
First Peru – then Chile and Colombia
The plan reaches far beyond Peru. LiuGong wants to use the country as a starting point for its business in Spanish-speaking Latin America. Chile and Colombia are among the next markets that the company intends to develop more aggressively.
This significantly changes Peru's role for the Chinese group. The country is no longer just a sales market for construction machinery, but is intended to become the regional hub for LiuGong's further expansion.
