Peru is enjoying a medal haul at the 2026 South American Games. At the ODESUR in Santa Fe, Team Perú has now won 26 medals: six gold, nine silver, and eleven bronze medals. Peruvian athletes have been particularly strong in shooting, but gold has also been secured in rowing, esports, and bocce. According to the current medal count, Peru is in sixth place behind Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Venezuela, and Chile.
Nicolás Pacheco wins ODESUR gold for the fourth time
One of the greatest successes comes from Nicolás Pacheco. The Peruvian sport shooter won the skeet competition with 34 hits. Federico Gil from Argentina took silver with 32 hits, and Chilean Héctor Flores finished third with 28 hits. For Pacheco, this victory is special: he previously won the South American Games skeet competition in 2014 in Santiago, 2018 in Cochabamba, and 2022 in Asunción. With his success in Santa Fe, he has now won ODESUR gold for the fourth time in a row. There was also a Peruvian medal in the women's skeet event: Daniella Borda won bronze.
Marko Carrillo collects two golds
Marko Carrillo is also one of the most successful Peruvians at these games. Together with Annia Becerra, he first won the 10-meter air pistol mixed team competition. Behind the Peruvian duo, Tatiana Diniz and Felipe Wu from Brazil took second place. Peru even secured another medal in that event: Deysi Jilapa and José Ullilen secured bronze.
Carrillo subsequently added to his tally by also winning the individual 10-meter air pistol competition. This means three of Peru's six gold medals so far have come from sport shooting.
Alessia and Valeria Palacios leave the competition behind
There was also reason to celebrate on the water. Sisters Alessia and Valeria Palacios won gold in the lightweight double sculls. Over the 2,000 meters on the Laguna Setúbal, the two Peruvians clocked 6:57.15 minutes. Paraguay followed in second place with 7:03.52 minutes, and Uruguay took third with 7:05.65 minutes.
For the two 26-year-olds, it was already the third ODESUR medal of their careers. They had previously won bronze in 2018 in Cochabamba and 2022 in Asunción. In Santa Fe, they managed to reach the top of the podium for the first time.
Esports and Bocce also bring Peru gold
Peruvian successes are not limited to traditional Olympic sports. Luis Suárez won the gold medal in the men's EA Sports FC event. The sixth gold medal then came from bocce: Tomaz Centa and Rosalba Rojas Raffo won the mixed pétanque competition. In the final, they defeated the Chilean duo Rodolfo Gálvez and Sabrina Polito 12-4.
26 medals for Peru
In addition to the six gold medals, Peru has won nine silver and eleven bronze medals so far. Medals were won in sports including swimming, weightlifting, fencing, stand-up paddling, diving, and gymnastics. The silver medalists include Itzel Delgado, Rafaela Fernandini, Shoely Mego, María Luisa Doig, Mariana Soriano, and Daniel Agüero. Bronze medals were brought home by Yasmín Silva, Ana Ricci, Nadia Vela, Alessio Fukuda, and Faviana Gavidia, among others.
For Peru, the games in Santa Fe are also an important step on the way to a much larger home event: the Lima 2027 Pan American Games.
