Experiencing Christmas in Peru was a completely new experience for me. No endless shopping stress, no weeks of rushing around looking for gifts, no nerve-wracking late-night wrapping of presents. Instead, it was a celebration that was different, quieter, yet still full of life.
On December 10, our next adventure began: a 20-hour overnight bus ride to Piura, my wife's hometown. The journey from Lima to Piura (Peru) is long - longer than a prison sentence for shoplifting and almost as unpleasant as a root canal without anesthesia. But we had opted for a comfortable coach with reclining seats, which meant we could sleep - in theory.
After a long flight, we finally arrive in Lima, Peru - the first stop on a two-month journey. Immediately after landing, you notice that the clocks tick differently here. While in Germany, you first have to relax after arriving, in Lima, things get going straight away. Family, friends and acquaintances are ready to greet us.
