The Journey to Piura – Our Trip to Peru 2024/2025 - Part 3
The trip to Piura (Peru) – A reunion with the family
Our trip to Peru continues. This time we are travelling to Piura in the north. You can find out what we experienced on the trip here:
On December 10, our next adventure began: a 20-hour overnight bus ride to Piura, my wife's hometown. The journey from Lima to Piura (Peru) is long - longer than a prison sentence for shoplifting and almost as unpleasant as a root canal without anesthesia. But we had opted for a comfortable coach with reclining seats, which meant we could sleep - in theory.
The advantages of bus travel
- Reclining areas ensured a relaxing journey (if you are no bigger than an average guinea pig).
- The cost is cheaper than a plane ticket – we were able to invest the savings in snacks, which mysteriously disappeared after two hours anyway.
- Continuous travel without long breaks (which is not an advantage for smokers, but hell on wheels).
The disadvantages of bus travel
- 20 hours is a long time – especially when the person sitting next to you snores like an old diesel generator.
- Road conditions and traffic volume can extend the journey – if you still want to watch a third season of a series.
- No breaks for smokers – they must either survive with nicotine patches or get creative and start chewing tea bags.
- No hot meals on board - only what you bring with you. If you don't have anything, you can hope for a new fasting cure.
- At night you can see as much of the Peruvian landscape as a mole with sunglasses.
After this ordeal, arriving in Piura was like being released from hostage-taking. The family welcomed us warmly and we could finally stretch our legs again without fear of accidentally breaking someone's rib.
Cachaquito – Preparations for an event

Beyond All Borders
During the preparations, a wide variety of people came together. Some procured materials, others took care of the organization. What was striking was the naturalness with which people invested their time without seeking recognition. The atmosphere was full of anticipation, but also focused - everyone wanted to do their part so that everything would run smoothly later.
