Chasca and the Untidy Sky
Chasca was closer than usual that night, for the sky above the mountains felt strange. The stars weren't sparkling where they usually did. Some were too close together, others seemed lost. The moon hung lower than usual, as if it had set out too early. A bright grey was already appearing in the east, even though the night wasn't over yet.
Down in the valley, the unease was immediately noticeable, even if no one could explain why. Some people woke up, though their eyes were still heavy. Sounds seemed closer than usual, as if the night had thinned. Steps felt uncertain. A dog stood up, walked a few steps, and sat down again, because it didn't know what it really wanted.

A child's room after a long day looked similar. Building blocks were in the way. Books were tucked under a blanket. A pen rolled somewhere where it was guaranteed never to be found later. Peace was then difficult to achieve, even if the body was tired, because the head was looking everywhere at once.
Chasca and the Art of Tidying Up
A child sat up in bed, as sleep simply wouldn't come. No reason could be found. But a feeling remained: Something wasn't right. The path outside was quiet. The air was cool, and the sky seemed uncertain, as if it were pondering whether to remain night or become morning.
Exactly where darkness and first light met, Chasca stood. No loud arrival, no special glow, no sign that needed to be told. A calm gaze went upwards, as attentive as the gaze of someone who knows that order takes time. For Chasca, it was clear that nothing was destroyed. The sky was just messy, like a room where too much has happened at once.
A quick solution would only have hidden everything. A pile under the bed looked tidy in the evening, but in the morning, one would stumble over it again. Real tidying worked differently. First the big things were put away, then the small ones. First the building blocks were collected, then the books stacked, and only at the end did the single pen get its place.
Just like that, order began in the sky. A star moved a little to the side. The moon rose slightly, just enough to fit again. The bright grey in the east paused, as if it had understood that waiting is sometimes important. For Chasca, pace didn't matter, but direction.
In the valley, the mood changed. The dog lay down again and closed its eyes. The child's breathing became calmer, without effort. Sounds felt familiar again. A soft rustle remained a rustle and no longer became something that grew bigger in the mind. A night with space made thoughts smaller.
A transition needed space. Between darkness and light, a silent moment arose, which was neither one nor the other. Such a moment felt like briefly pausing in the tidy children's room before pulling up the blanket. No must, no rush, just the moment when everything suddenly seems simpler.

The morning then began slowly. Light came over the mountains, like a day begins when you've had enough sleep. Darkness receded without resistance. A bird called softly, later a second. The sky seemed clear. Nothing special. But right.
Chasca had already disappeared. An ordered transition no longer needed supervision. A tidy room remained tidy even when no one was there, as long as no one threw everything across the room again.
Why a Calm Start Makes the Day Easier
The way back into the house was easy for the child. Sleep came again, even though it was already getting brighter outside. No one woke it. The day didn't run away. A sense of time remained, as if the morning understood that children sometimes need another moment.
Later, people got up, and the morning felt good. Conversations sounded normal. Steps were sure. Breakfast tasted like breakfast and not like a race. No one thought about the sky. No one spoke of Chasca. Nevertheless, everyone noticed that the day had started calmly.
Some mornings still felt different today when the transition came too quickly. Then the image of the children's room fit again. Order didn't mean perfection. Order meant room to breathe. Only when nothing is in the way can a day truly begin.
One thought remained as a quiet rule: Sometimes it's not the day that needs help, but the beginning. A little patience made all the difference. And somewhere between night and light, Chasca waited for just such moments.
