In the center stands a historic granite fountain. From here, the cathedral and other destinations in the city center can be easily combined.
Kotosh: Huánuco's view into the early Andean world.
The Zona Arqueológica Monumental de Kotosh is located about five kilometers west of the city. The complex has a history stretching back over 4,000 years and is one of the important early ceremonial sites of the Andes.
Particularly well-known is the Templo de las Manos Cruzadas. Two pairs of crossed arms were designed as reliefs from unfired clay. Kotosh shows that religious and social organization in the Andes began long before the Incas.

Huánuco's city center can be easily explored on foot. Shops, restaurants, and important buildings are located around the Plaza. The current cathedral, with its modern architecture, differs significantly from many classic colonial churches in Peru.
Inside, there are religious artworks and paintings from the Cusco school, among others. Thus, the building combines modern architecture with older collections.
Shismay: out of the city.
The Casa Hacienda Shismay is located in the rural surroundings of Huánuco. The historic estate and the surrounding landscape show a different side of the region than the bustling city center.
An excursion is particularly suitable for travelers who do not want to reduce Huánuco to Kotosh and the Plaza. Paths through the landscape and smaller towns broaden the view of the highlands around the city.
