KEIKO DECLARES WAR ON THE MAFIA!
On September 22, Fujimori addressed the 81st United Nations General Assembly. She demanded that organized criminal groups be treated internationally like terrorist organizations. The focus was on drug trafficking, extortion, human trafficking, and illegal mining. The announcement comes amidst a tense security situation in Peru. It will be crucial to see whether this leads to additional investigative and protective measures.
TRUMP AND KEIKO: THE SECURITY ALLIANCE
On the sidelines of UN week, Fujimori participated in a meeting of the US-led "Shield of the Americas" initiative. Peru had already joined the alliance prior to her trip. The cooperation is intended to combat cross-border crime and drug trafficking. What specific commitments Peru is undertaking and what measures will result from them remains a central question.
THE HUNT FOR CRIMINAL MONEY
Discussions with the UN Office on Drugs and Crime focused on technical assistance, money laundering, illegal mining, and the monitoring of international transport routes. Criminal networks operate across borders: without information on financial flows and transport chains, their structures are difficult to dismantle.
WALL STREET! KEIKO COURTS INVESTORS
On September 24, Fujimori participated in the closing bell ceremony at the New York Stock Exchange. She presented Peru as an investment destination and pointed to the country's currency reserves and economic stability. However, an appearance before international companies is not yet an investment contract. No major new contracts directly attributable to this trip were confirmed by the end of the visit.
EL NIÑO: THE NEXT CHALLENGE
Preparation for El Niño was also a topic of the trip. Tumbes and Piura, in particular, can be severely affected by heavy rain and flooding. International cooperation in disaster preparedness is therefore also significant for northern Peru. Concrete additional aid pledges have not yet been definitively documented.
FIVE DAYS IN NEW YORK – WHAT DOES PERU GAIN?
The trip brought international discussions, a public reaffirmation of regional security cooperation, and attention to Peru as an investment destination. Measurable results—such as additional funding, concrete security measures, and new investment decisions—remain to be seen.
THE CAMERAS ARE OFF – NOW IMPLEMENTATION COUNTS
