A German industrial group is making inroads in Peru! Heidelberg Materials is acquiring a 70 percent stake in the Peruvian cement manufacturer Cementos Inka. This move marks the entry of one of the world's largest building materials groups directly into the Peruvian cement market.
The deal was agreed upon in early September. The closing is already scheduled for October 2026. For Heidelberg Materials, this represents a direct entry into a market where the German group previously had no cement production of its own. The acquisition is also another example of the growing economic ties between Germany and Peru.
THE STORY BEHIND THE DEAL
How much Heidelberg Materials is actually paying remains confidential. However, by acquiring Cementos Inka, the German group is not taking over a small operation. The Peruvian company employs around 270 people and operates two cement grinding plants as well as two ready-mix concrete plants.
The two grinding plants have a combined capacity of approximately 1.3 million tons per year. The facilities are located in the Lima and Pisco areas, and thus in economically significant regions of Peru. At the same time, the locations offer convenient access to ports.
WHY DO THE GERMANS WANT TO GO TO PERU?
Heidelberg Materials is focused on growth and points to the demand for housing, infrastructure investment, and the ongoing economic development of Peru. Instead of building entirely new facilities from scratch, the group is acquiring an already operational producer.
Plants, employees, customers, and distribution structures are already in place. This is precisely what makes Cementos Inka interesting for Heidelberg Materials. Added to this is the proximity of the locations to key transport and port connections. A broader overview of the country's economy, regions, and development can be found in the PeruMagazin Peru Overview.
FROM FAMILY BUSINESS TO PART OF A GLOBAL CONCERN
Cementos Inka was founded in 2007 and has been family-owned until now. With the acquisition of 70 percent of the shares, the ownership structure will change fundamentally.
Heidelberg Materials is a group with around 49,000 employees in nearly 50 countries. Cementos Inka will thus gain access to an international production, trade, and distribution network.
THE PURCHASE PRICE? SECRET!
The companies are not revealing one decisive figure: What do 70 percent of Cementos Inka cost? The parties involved have not published a concrete purchase price.
Heidelberg Materials merely states that the transaction is valued at approximately six times the EBITDA expected for 2026. The actual amount the German group is paying for its stake therefore remains under wraps.
PERU'S CEMENT MARKET IS BECOMING MORE INTERNATIONAL
Heidelberg Materials is not the first international building materials group to enter Peru in recent years. With the German company, another international heavyweight is entering the scene. For the Peruvian cement market, this entry means an additional major player with global procurement, production, and distribution structures.
AND WHAT HAPPENS NOW?
The deal is scheduled to be completed as early as October 2026. It will be interesting to see what plans Heidelberg Materials pursues with Cementos Inka thereafter. The German group has not yet provided concrete details regarding new plants, additional production lines, or major investment programs.
However, the starting position is clear: in one stroke, Heidelberg Materials gains two grinding plants, two ready-mix concrete plants, around 270 employees, and an annual grinding capacity of 1.3 million tons. For a new entry into the Peruvian market, that is a considerable scale.
