Perusino, Perusina, Tupac and the Secret of the Inca Numbers
It was a sunny afternoon in the land of the Incas, and Perusino, Perusina and Tupac were playing in the courtyard of the palace. The sun shone warmly on the stone walls, and the children laughed happily as they tried to throw stones as far as possible across the courtyard.
Suddenly an elderly man approached them. It was Wiracocha, a wise man who helped the Incas manage their fields and supplies. He was carrying a bundle of strange cords with colorful knots attached to them.
“What do you have there?” Perusino asked curiously when he saw the strings.
"This, my little friend, is a quipu," said Wiracocha with a mysterious smile. "It is our number and message system. It is how we manage everything in the Inca Empire - from supplies to harvests."
Perusina was amazed. "Cords with knots? That's a number system? Can you show us how it works?"
Wiracocha nodded and smiled. "Of course. But there is much more to learn about it. There is an ancient temple in the mountains where you can discover the secret of the quipu. But be warned - it is not easy. You will need courage, intelligence and teamwork."
"That sounds like a new adventure!" Tupac shouted. "Let's go!"
The Way to the Temple
The three friends set out into the mountains to find the secret temple of the Quipus. The path was rocky and full of narrow paths that sometimes led directly along steep slopes.
"Watch your step!" Tupac shouted as he carefully balanced on a narrow ridge. The wind whistled loudly and the rocks crunched beneath their feet.
Suddenly a stone slipped under Perusina's foot and she lost her balance! She screamed, but Perusino was quickly there. "Hold on, Perusina!" he shouted and pulled her back to the safety of the path.
Perusina breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank you, Perusino. That was close!"
"We have to be careful," said Tupac. "But we can do it. Together we always reach our goal."
The Secret Entrance
After a while they reached the old temple, hidden between tall trees. It looked as if it had been abandoned for many years. On the side of the entrance they saw cords and colorful knots - just like Wiracocha's quipu.
"This must be the entrance," said Perusino. "But how do we get in?"
Perusina looked at the ropes and thought. "Maybe we need to untie the knots to open the entrance."
"Yeah! But we have to do it in the right order," said Tupac. "Otherwise something bad might happen."
The three friends looked closely at the strings. Each string had knots of a different color: red, yellow, blue and green.
"We have to solve the colors in the right order," said Perusina. "Let's think about what colors the Incas used for their most important things."
Perusino remembered: "Red represents the blood of the earth, that's important. Blue is the sky and yellow is the sun. Green must represent the plants!"
They carefully began to untie the knots in the correct order. Red first, then blue, then yellow and finally green. With a quiet click, the entrance opened and they could enter the temple.
The Mystery of the Quipus
Inside the temple it was dark and cool. They walked carefully until they reached a large chamber. In the middle of the room hung a huge quipu that reached almost to the floor. Colorful knots and cords could be seen everywhere.
“Wow! That’s the biggest quipu I’ve ever seen!” Tupac shouted.
"But look," said Perusina, pointing to the wall behind the quipu. "There's a message engraved there. It looks like a riddle."
On the wall it said: “Solve the number of corn cobs to learn the secret of the quipu.”
Perusino looked around and spotted baskets full of corncobs scattered around the room. "Maybe we need to count how many corncobs there are!"
"But there are so many baskets!" said Perusina. "How are we going to manage that?"
Tupac thought. "Maybe we can use the quipu to write down the number. Each knot could represent a number!"
The friends split up to count the corn cobs. Perusino counted the baskets on the left, Perusina in the middle, and Tupac on the right. They called out the numbers to each other, and Tupac tied knots in the strings of the quipu - one knot for each amount.
When they were finished, they looked at the quipu: three large cords, each with several knots. "This is our answer," Perusina said.
“But what happens now?” asked Perusino.
The Secret Revealed
Suddenly the quipu began to glow, and a hidden door at the back of the chamber opened. Behind it was a small room where ancient scrolls and small golden figurines were kept.
“This is incredible!” Tupac exclaimed. “This is the knowledge of the Incas – the secrets of the quipus!”
Perusina picked up one of the scrolls. It had pictures of corn fields and people tying knots. "The Incas used the quipu to count everything - from their crops to their supplies. The quipu was their numbering system!"
"This means that we now know the secret of the quipu," Perusino said proudly. "And we can use it to help the people of the empire."
The Return Home
With the knowledge of the quipu and a few scrolls in their pockets, the friends set off on their return journey. The journey home was just as challenging as the journey there, but this time they knew that together they could overcome any challenge.
When they reached the palace, Wiracocha greeted them with a proud smile. "You have managed to discover the secret of the quipu," he said. "You have shown courage, wisdom and teamwork - exactly what true rulers need."
"We only made it through because we stuck together," Tupac said. "And now we know how important the quipu is to our people."
Perusina, Perusino and Tupac smiled at each other. They knew that they had learned something very special today – not only about numbers and knots, but also about friendship and solidarity.
