Pachamama – Perusina explains the benevolent earth mother

Perusina - Who is this Pachamama anyway?
Pachamama is something like the boss of everything that has to do with earth, nature and life. Without her, it would be as dry down here as Perusino's cookie when he shouts "I don't need a plate!" and forgets it somewhere. She makes sure that corn grows, potatoes thrive and llama butts can wiggle in the wind.
Why did the Incas love Pachamama so much?
Because she is simply the best! The Incas believed that she gives us everything we need - but beware if you are unkind to her! Then there are earthquakes or bad weather. That's why the Incas often gave her gifts, for example coca leaves, corn beer or even golden figures. My brother Perusino also wanted to give Pachamama a gift - unfortunately he chose his old shoe. Well, some things never change...

How do we thank Pachamama today?
Even today, there are many people in the Andes who honor Pachamama. They celebrate the "Día de la Pachamama" on August 1st and give back to the earth a little of what it gives us - food, flowers or even a drink of beer. My dad does that too, but he calls it a "barbecue party."
