Perusino Catches Inti at the Beach

Perusino Catches Inti at the Beach

Interview with the Sun God about Light, Rhythm, Gold, and Inti Raymi

Inti Sun God. A beach lies brightly lit, and the waves sound like applause that never ends. Next to Perusino is a small high-tech set, running entirely on solar energy. Solar panels absorb light, batteries show happily green bars, and the camera pretends to be braver than the sun. Nevertheless, one glance upwards is enough to make it clear who is really in charge here.

Perusino Catches Inti at the Beach

A name belongs to this light: Inti, the Sun God of the Inca. A sun as a god sounds at first like a particularly bright lamp with an ego. A conversation quickly shows that it's more about order, time, and everyday life. Perusino wants to know exactly, preferably without preaching and without boredom.

Perusino: One thing is immediately apparent: the power for the equipment comes from you. An interview with its own power supply sounds like luxury. What mood is a Sun God in when people stash his light in batteries?

Sun God (Inti): A mood is more fitting for humans. A benefit is more fitting. Solar energy demonstrates learning, not insolence. A mistake only arises when rules are suddenly considered abolished.

Perusino: Rules keep coming up with you, as if they were sand in your swimming trunks. What defines you if a child should only retain one image in their mind?

Sun God Inti: A promise defines me: to return. A second core belongs to it: warmth for growth. A third core holds everything together: rhythm, so that a day doesn't accidentally descend into chaos.

Sun God Inti A promise defines me: to return.

Perusino: Chaos at least has movement. Order sounds like people saying "Shhh" even though no one was loud. Why is order so important to you?

Sun God Inti: Order makes time usable. Sowing needs the right moment. Harvesting needs the right moment. Supplies need planning. An empire without rhythm first gets empty stores, then loud heads.

Perusino: My head gets loud when the light is too strong. Why does warmth sometimes feel like a cozy blanket and sometimes like a frying pan?

Sun God Inti: Measure decides. Wind, clouds, and location also decide. A break in the shade protects skin, eyes, and fields. A day without a break would not be joy, but a burden.

Perusino: My shadow is so small at noon that it's probably ashamed. In the evening, it gets long again like a show-off. What does that mean?

Sun God Inti: Time becomes visible. A clock is not necessary for this. A shadow shows how the day moves, and the mind can learn that everything has its time.

Perusino: A time sounds like homework. A glittering topic sounds better: gold. Why is gold so closely linked to you among the Inca, as if it had rented a space with you?

Sun God : Gold is a mirror for light. People love visible proof. Shine acts like truth, though it's often just a surface. The Sun God needs no metal, but people like to attach meaning to things that glitter.

Perusino: Surface works well for shells, less so for people. What happens in the mind when shine is confused with importance?

Sun God: A gaze becomes greedier. Thinking becomes lazier. A feeling of security is simulated, even though nothing has become safer. Work, supplies, and fairness sustain an empire, not glitter.

Perusino: Fairness suits a temple so famous that even cheeky voices quiet down: Coricancha in Cusco. What is this place actually supposed to achieve, besides open mouths?

Sun God: Remembrance should arise. Time is serious. Harvest is serious. Responsibility is serious. A temple is not a treasure chest, but a reminder, so that duties are not forgotten.

Coricancha in Cusco

Perusino: Responsibility sounds heavy. A child's version of it sounds better, because children like to run away from heavy words, and very quickly.

Sun God: Sharing helps. Paying attention helps. Accepting boundaries helps. A child knows this from games: a game remains good if not one person takes everything and then screams "winner."

Perusino: People can scream "winner" even without a game. A festival like Inti Raymi sounds like a huge group appointment. What really happens there, if it's not just about looking up?

Sun God: Gratitude is expressed, so that what is good does not disappear as a matter of course. A request is expressed, so that boundaries remain visible. A people remembers that the darker time is not the end. Togetherness becomes warm, before fear makes it cold.

Perusino: Fear comes to me when a wave is suddenly faster than my legs. What happens when people treat you as a given, like sand that is "always there" until it scratches in your sock?

Sun God : Respect disappears. Measure disappears. Waste and hoarding become more frequent. Distribution becomes more unfair. A Sun God does not punish like a human, but consequences still come.

Perusino: Consequences always come with a bang for Illapa. A team still seems to be running up there. What is your relationship with rain and thunder, without it sounding like a series of arguments?

Sun God: Collaboration fits. Rain without light creates cold and mud. Light without rain creates dust and hunger. Life arises when both come together.

Conclusion A gust of wind pushes sand over the solar panels, as if the beach itself wanted to test whether the technology really holds up.

Conclusion A gust of wind pushes sand over the solar panels, as if the beach itself wanted to test whether the technology really holds up. Perusino blows the sand away, the batteries continue to blink, and Inti hangs over everything like a silent promise. One thought remains in mind: the sun is not just beautiful, but also a kind of rulebook that restarts every day, without any instructions.
