Landscape and Nature

The west and south of the department are high in the Andes. Around Lake Junín, the Mantaro Valley, and Huaytapallana, plateaus, lakes, pastureland, and snow-capped peaks define the landscape.

Towards Chanchamayo and Satipo, the terrain slopes down to the Central Selva. There, dense vegetation, rivers, waterfalls, and significantly warmer temperatures characterize the landscape.
