Why Colca Canyon is special
The Colca Canyon combines an extraordinary geological landscape with centuries-old terraced fields and traditionally influenced towns. In its deepest sections, the gorge reaches about 3,400 meters.
Andean condors use the thermal updrafts above the canyon. They can frequently be observed, especially at the Cruz del Cóndor, though a sighting always depends on nature.
Key towns in the Colca Valley
Chivay
Chivay is the tourist center of the upper Colca Valley. Here you will find accommodation, restaurants, transport links, and access to several thermal springs.
Yanque
Yanque is located west of Chivay and is known for its colonial church, the plaza, and the surrounding terraces.
Maca
Maca is located on the route toward Cruz del Cóndor. The village offers views of terraced fields and the steep slopes of the Colca Valley.
Cruz del Cóndor
This lookout is one of the most famous stops. Early in the day, there are often good chances to see condors in the rising thermal currents.
Cabanaconde

The Geopark covers approximately 6,582 square kilometers in the provinces of Caylloma and Castilla. Volcanic landforms, deep gorges, and cultural landscapes characterize the area.

For the tourist Circuito Colca, a Boleto Turístico is managed by AUTOCOLCA. The ticket covers the official circuit in the Colca area.
Individual offers are not included in the ticket. According to current conditions, these include, among others, La Calera and the Uyo Uyo archaeological complex.

May to September are generally drier. During the rainy season, roads, hiking trails, and visibility conditions may be affected on short notice.
Current situation
AUTOCOLCA offers an electronic Boleto Turístico for the circuit. According to current conditions, the desired visit date can be selected a maximum of 15 calendar days in advance.
Before long hikes and trips, the current condition of roads and paths should be checked. This is especially true during the rainy season.
How challenging is a visit?
The classic lookouts can be reached by vehicle with short walks. Hikes from Cabanaconde into the interior of the canyon are more demanding.
The altitude also plays a role. Travelers should acclimatize to the Andean height and reduce physical exertion if experiencing symptoms.
