Bosque de Cuyas at a glance
The forest is located a few kilometers from Ayabaca. Agencia Andina mentions about a 25-minute drive from the city center. It is one of the humid mountain forests of the northern Andes and forms a clear contrast to the dry coastal landscape of Piura.
The forest is also an important water reservoir. Vegetation absorbs moisture from clouds and rainfall, gradually releasing it into springs and streams.

Biodiversity
Its location between the Andes and lower habitats promotes diverse flora and fauna. Bird watching is particularly interesting.
Opening hours and entry
There are no centrally published daily opening hours for this natural area like those of a museum. Access, local tours, and potential fees should therefore be clarified directly in Ayabaca or with the responsible municipality before your visit.
Planning your visit
Sturdy, non-slip shoes, a raincoat, drinking water, insect repellent, and binoculars are recommended. After rain, paths can be muddy and slippery. An early departure from Ayabaca leaves enough time.
With children
A visit is possible with older, hiking-experienced children. However, due to damp and uneven paths, the forest is not a classic walking trail.
