SANTA FE – PERU HITS THE MARK! At the 2026 South American Games in Argentina, Peru’s athletes secured new medals on September 24 and 25. Double gold in Paleta Frontón, five bronze medals in badminton, and further successes in various disciplines highlighted the final days of competition.
DOUBLE GOLD IN PALETA FRONTÓN!
Two singles finals, two gold medals for Peru! Cristopher Martínez defeated Argentine Guillermo Osorio 15:9 and 15:11. Valeria Garcés also prevailed against the hosts, beating Melina Spahn 15:8 and 15:7. Both Peruvian athletes won their finals without dropping a set. The matches took place in Rosario at the National Flag Memorial.
The official results overview from the organizers lists Cristopher Martínez as the winner of the men's singles. This corrects a discrepancy in the name provided in earlier reports.
GOLD AT THE CONSOLE – AND SILVER TO BOOT!
There were also Peruvian medals in e-sports: Domenico Suárez won gold in the soccer video game EA SPORTS FC, while Patricia Pérez took silver in the women's competition. The digital competition supplemented the South American Games program.
FIVE TIMES BRONZE! PERU'S BADMINTON TEAM HITS THE MARK
On Friday, Peru reported five bronze medals in badminton. Four of the awards went to athletes from the Peruvian Institute of Sport's (IPD) PAD development program, and another to an athlete from the Lima 2027 program. The team collected medals in several singles and doubles competitions.
SOCCER BRONZE AGAINST CHILE
Peru's men's team won the third-place play-off against Chile 2-1, securing another medal. After taking the lead through Piero Cari and a subsequent own goal by Chile's Matías Orellana, Peru held on to the lead until the final whistle.
BITTER END IN VOLLEYBALL
The Peruvian men's volleyball team, however, fell short of the podium. The bronze medal match was lost 0-3 to Colombia. The sets ended 23:25, 19:25, and 23:25; Peru finished the tournament in fourth place.
