One of the most anticipated construction projects in Peru, the new Jorge Chávez Airport City, will begin operations on December 18. The airport, located in the province of Callao, will be one of the most technologically advanced in the entire South American region.
According to experts, the modernized airport will be able to handle around 30 million passengers annually. Currently, 80% of the construction work has been completed.
What will the new Jorge Chávez Airport offer?
The new Jorge Chávez Airport City covers an area of 935 hectares and includes a variety of modern and spacious facilities:
- Parking for 3,000 vehicles
- Two runways
- Logistics Park
- Fuel system
- Parking zone
- Police station
- More than 100 stores
- Two luxurious hotels (3 and 5 stars)
Over $2 billion has been invested in this major project. The new main entrance will be accessible from Avenida Morales Duarez, supported by new access roads to ensure a smooth experience for travelers. In addition, the commercial area will be tripled to encourage national business, especially in the gastronomic sector. The design of the new airport is inspired by the hummingbird of the Nazca Lines and will be visible from the air to greet arriving tourists.
What will happen to the current passenger terminal?
With the implementation of the new project, the current passenger terminal will be decommissioned. According to Paola Loayza, Managing Director of Real Estate LAP, the existing terminal will be repurposed for commercial, business and aviation purposes.
"The passenger terminal will no longer be used as such and will be used for commercial, business and aviation purposes. For this purpose, we are studying the market and the interest of investors," explained Loayza.
