Peruvian megaproject: Bioceánico train connecting Chancay and Pucallpa with Brazil: investment, benefits and regional integration

PeruMagazin

The planned mega-project of a bioceanic train that will connect the Peruvian cities of Chancay and Pucallpa with Brazil has far-reaching implications for regional integration and trade. With an investment of US$ 10,000,000.00 and a planned route of 8,000 kilometers, this project is part of a comprehensive development plan to strengthen economic and commercial links between Peru and Brazil.

Beyond all borders

The imminent opening of the megaport of Chancay adds to the urgency of this project, as creating an efficient land connection for the transport of goods is crucial. Brazil, a major exporter of products such as soy and minerals, finds in Peru an important partner. Ucayali in particular, a region strongly influenced by the agricultural sector, is facing increasing demand for a direct connection to global markets, especially countries such as China.

The integration of the Bioceánic train into the Bioceánico Integration Railway Corridor underscores long-term efforts to improve transoceanic transport links. China has recently expressed interest in participating in this project, providing additional momentum and potential for development and financing.

The planned route of the Biocean train incorporates existing infrastructure and includes important commercial centers. By 2020, it was planned to start from the port of Santos in Brazil, travel through Bolivia and then cross various cities in Peru before reaching the destination at the port of Ilo on the Pacific Ocean. Brazil is already working on expanding its railway infrastructure, while Bolivia's development plan until 2025 plans to expand its rail links to ensure seamless interconnectivity.
The Bioceán train project will not only boost trade between Peru and Brazil, but will also strengthen regional integration and create economic development opportunities for both countries.
