A journey through the heart of Colombia: From Bogota to Villa de Leyva - Part 5

When we set off from Bogota to Villa de Leyva on January 24th, we had no idea what adventures awaited us. It was a sunny morning as we set out to explore the heart of Colombia. Accompanied by Laura's parents and the anticipation of new discoveries, we set off, ready for whatever the roads had in store for us.

Our first stop was at a picturesque lake, whose calm waters provided the perfect place to pause and take in the beauty of nature. The clear water reflected the blue sky as we strolled along the shore and were captured by the peace and serenity of the place.

We continued to the historic bridge, the "Puente de Boyacá", where Colombia's independence was proclaimed in 1819. A place of great historical significance that reminded us of the bravery and courage necessary to win freedom. We stood there, overwhelmed by the history these ancient stones bore, and felt a deep connection to the people who had stood in this place before us.

As the sun slowly sank towards the horizon, we finally reached Villa de Leyva. The charming city welcomed us with open arms, and we immediately felt the relaxed atmosphere that pervaded the cobblestone streets. Our dinner at a rooftop bar in Plaza Mayor gave us breathtaking views of the city and the surrounding countryside while we sampled local delicacies and shared our experiences of the day.

The next morning we set out to explore the famous Pozos Azules. The blue pools were a truly magical sight, their deep blue glowing in the sunlight and captivating us. We enjoyed strolling along the paths and taking in the beauty of nature before making our way back to Villa de Leyva.

The village itself turned out to be a real gem. The old streets, lined with historic buildings and picturesque squares, were great to explore. We strolled through the alleys, tried local delicacies like the famous Milhoja cake and enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere that was felt everywhere. But as the day progressed, we felt the heat of the day slowly turn into a pleasant coolness, and the village awakened to a new life.

On the way back to Bogota, our route took us through the enthusiastic racing bike region of Boyacá. We passed the charming village of Raquira, known for its pottery, and stopped in Chiquinquirá to admire the imposing cathedral. It was a trip full of unforgettable moments and fascinating discoveries that gave us a glimpse into the diversity and beauty of Colombia.

When we finally arrived back in Bogota, we were filled with gratitude for the experiences we had had and the memories we would take home with us. This journey through the heart of Colombia not only offered us scenic beauty and historical sights, but also gave us deep insights into the culture and lifestyle of this fascinating country. It was an experience that we would remember forever and that encouraged us to keep exploring new places and discovering the world with open eyes and an open heart.
