Barichara: Ein Juwel in den kolumbianischen Anden - Teil 3

Barichara: A Jewel in the Colombian Andes - Part 3

Colombia is a country full of contrasts, rich in culture, history and breathtaking nature. Among the many hidden gems this country has to offer, one small village stands out - Barichara. Located in the foothills of the Colombian Andes, Barichara is a gem that captures the hearts of those who wander its cobblestone streets and are enchanted by its timeless beauty.

My journey to Barichara began with an adventurous drive from Bogotá that took me through a landscape as diverse as the country itself. From arid plains to lush green mountain ranges, the drive offered a taste of the beauty that awaited me in Barichara should expect. But not only the landscape, but also the road conditions and the driving behavior of the locals posed a challenge that I mastered together with my companion, Laura.

Arriving in Barichara, I was immediately enchanted by the picturesque atmosphere of the village. The old colonial buildings, narrow streets and friendly locals created an atmosphere that transported me to another time. During my stay, I explored the village's attractions, including the Principial Parque, the Catedral de la Inmaculada Concepcion, and the Jesus Chapel Cemetery. But it was the breathtaking view from the Mirador de Barichara of the canyon and the surrounding mountains that impressed me most.

Away from the tourist hotspots, I also discovered the artistic side of Barichara. At "De la tierra casa taller" I had the opportunity to paint with local soil and minerals and create works of art that reminded me of the works of Picasso. I later learned how paper is made locally from various plants, a tradition that has been practiced in Barichara for centuries.

But Barichara not only has a lot to offer in terms of culture and landscape, but also in terms of cuisine. At restaurants like "Independencia cocina y sazón" and "Elvia" I was able to enjoy delicious Colombian cuisine while admiring the sunset over the canyon.

In addition to the sights and culinary delights, Barichara also offered adventure for those who dared. A trip to the Parque Nacional del Chicamocha took me to one of the largest canyons in the world, where I experienced ziplining, rappelling and admired the breathtaking scenery from the air. Rafting through the Rio Fonce and paragliding near Kuriti were also unforgettable experiences that gave me a new perspective on the beauty of nature.

But my trip to Barichara was not only characterized by adventure and cultural discoveries, but also by unexpected challenges. A locked car and a bumpy start to paragliding were just some of the obstacles I had to face. But thanks to the helpfulness of the locals and my own determination, I was able to overcome these challenges and emerge stronger from them.

Overall, my time in Barichara was an unforgettable journey full of adventure, beauty and unexpected encounters. It is a place that touched me deeply and that I would recommend to anyone looking for authentic experiences and unforgettable moments. Because Barichara is not just a village - it is an experience that you will never forget.
