Haiti

Haiti is a Caribbean island nation on the island of Hispaniola. The island is shared with the Dominican Republic. The capital is Port-au-Prince. Haiti is characterized by a complex history of colonization, slavery and struggles for independence. As the first independent Caribbean country after a successful slave revolt against French colonial rule in 1804, Haiti has a rich African-Caribbean culture. However, the country suffers from poverty, political instability and natural disasters such as earthquakes and hurricanes. Despite many challenges, international organizations are committed to promoting humanitarian aid and development in Haiti.
