In Peru, resistance to copper production is growing - both from workers and environmental organizations as well as at the regulatory level. However, copper producers are still holding on to the location and are counting on politicians to recognize the importance of the industry for the country.
Peru's President Pedro Castillo yesterday named the country's culture minister as the new prime minister after the incumbent resigned. The 33-year-old Betssy Chavez is the fifth person to fill the post since the politically troubled Castillo took office 16 months ago.
