Handball Bundesliga Saison 22/23

Handball Bundesliga season 22/23

Summer time means preparation time. And by now the teams should have started training. Because there are some challenges this year too. For some more and for others less. Here's a forecast. Put up by me.

Nobody says or writes it, but the Bundesliga will face greater competition in the next few years than it would like. In addition to the already strong leagues in France, Spain, Poland etc. are upgrading the leagues in Denmark and Norway. The clubs in Germany are now slowly running out of leading figures as they return to their homeland.

This year too, the figurehead, the German national team, will not be tearing up any trees. We have the coach. But a mouse doesn't turn into a fighting tiger that quickly. The largest association in the world is still unable to train enough young talent to form a powerful force. Take a look at Iceland. (300,000 inhabitants) No wonder when you consider that boys and girls are allowed to say: I want to at the age of 8.9. And here we are back on the subject of trainers. There are not enough coaches in popular sports. There are also not enough offers to get young people away from computers and cell phones. Handball is also being thinned out in rural areas. There are fewer and fewer clubs that can offer handball.

But we were in the preview for the new season. Who will do the race? A favorite? A team that no one thinks about? Let's go through the alternatives.

#WeloveHandball Pillowcase - The ultimate pillowcase for watching handball

SC Magdeburg

Last season's surprise? No, not at all. It has become apparent in recent years. Last season they were consistent and got rid of almost everything. Basically, Magdeburg has implemented what Dagur Sigurðsson wanted to successfully introduce on the national level. If you don't have any firecrackers, play the game so quickly that the opponent doesn't see you. The competitors certainly didn't look the other way, but whether they can hold their own in the next one remains to be seen.

My tip: This was the beginning of something really big. Magdeburg will defend its title. But it's getting scarcer.

THW Kiel

Yes, I missed the beginning and then rediscovered my old strengths. Let's not kid ourselves, with the goalkeeper and the animals in the backcourt, THW is almost unbeatable. Nearly. The next season. But what comes next?

THW will also be at the top this season. With this team they actually have to win everything. But that's how it is. A Sagosen is not a guarantee of title.

I see placement 1 to 3 here.

Foxes Berlin

Caused a stir. With third place last season and the transfer of the Dane Mathias Gidsel. Like in GDR times, big mouth, but something behind it. The comparison is flawed. Because you have to give it to the people of the capital. They have the best youth work in the entire German handball sector. And they benefit from that. Rightly so. If the Foxes now manage to form a team, then nothing will stand in the way of the dual leadership from the East. If not this season, then in...

My tip: 3rd place

SG Flensburg-Handewitt

Yes, it's a shame. Unfortunately. Or maybe a hot number on the title? The SG has had to give up a lot in recent years. This continued last season. Taking new paths would be a recipe for the future. Or maybe continue digging through the player pool of the Nordic handball countries? SG, where are you headed? What are the offspring doing? I don't hear enough.

Show us that you are the ones from the north who are shaking up the whole of Germany.

My tip: unfortunately no podium. Places 4 to 6

#WeloveHandball - Handby - If you have to watch handball alone.

Fresh from Göppingen

Always good for a little surprise. But unfortunately without consistency. The club doesn't stay in your head. Unless you come from the region. Fifth place is probably the maximum that can be achieved. But what stands out: Frisch Auf works solidly. It has its line and has done so for many years.

My tip: 7th to 10th place

TBV Lemgo Lippe

The old master has made positive developments in recent years. 6th place and in demand internationally next season. That will probably be a bit much for this team. The TBV will consolidate. But don't move forward any further. This will take a while.

My tip: 7th to 10th place

HSG Wetzlar

A seventh place is the top result for this club. Small cracks really big. Unfortunately, that's not enough to attack at the top. The HSG will also not be able to keep its place in the coming season.

My tip: places 11 to 14

MT Melsungen

The laughing stock of the last few years. We have money and can buy the German champions together. German is good. But people, you also watch the national team's games. You bought German mediocre food and got the receipt for it. Handball Germany is grinning about this. That probably won't happen next season either. The MT will probably languish in the midfield.

My tip: places 7 to 11

SC DHfK Leipzig

The number three from the East and with ambitions. A ninth place was a bit disappointing. Nevertheless, this team has a future. You will see.

My tip: places 7 to 11

Rhine Neckar Lions

The lions probably imagined it differently. Tick it off and move on. You have a good youth workforce and I'm not worried about the future. Nevertheless, things won't be any better next season.

My tip: places 7 to 11

Bergischer HC

Yes, is there anything to say? Up and down! At least the club stays in the first league. Is that already a success? At the moment I see little ambition for the future.

My tip: 12th to 14th place

HC Erlangen

Expectations were higher. Goal not achieved. But here too I see fewer chances of attacking next season.

My tip: 12th to 14th place

TSV Hannover Burgdorf

How arrogant can you be? You're the league leader and you feel like FC Barcelona. Work with more humility and then it will work again. For me, the crash of last season.

My tip: Place 12 - 14

HSV Hamburg

There he is again. The HSV. In the first league. Torsten Jansen, as a player he was a worker, fighter and role model. Now the Hamburgers are establishing themselves in the first league with these virtues. And this development is not over yet. Just one request: without Mr. Kühne.

My tip: places 7 to 11

TVB Stuttgart

The Swabians met my expectations. Unfortunately, they weren't able to set any accents and that probably won't happen any time soon. Yes, you have goals in sport. The reality usually looks different.

My tip: 15th to 18th place

GWD Minden

At some point things go wrong. It's a shame, but that's not possible. The strength is enough for one season, but things will probably go downhill in the second. Unless...

My tip: 15th to 18th place, more like 17th

VfL Gummersbach

I am happy! My first attempts at handball were comparisons with VFL Gummersbach. How, as a steppe, I looked in fear at the buses that came from the west. And then this exchange of blows. It's nice to see you back in the upper house. And you have come to stay.

My tip: 12th to 14th place

ASV Hamm-Westphalia

This probably won't work for you. Yes, you prevailed against well-known competition. Yes, you probably played the best season in your history. I'm very sorry, but it's going down again for you.

My tip: Place: 15 to 18, more like 18

#WeloveHandball - At the end the sweat drips - your pill...

Through!

Of course not. the season is just beginning. These tips are my personal opinion. I would be happy to prove myself wrong. And I also know that this happens.

No matter how a game ends. It's about handball. Because...
