Peru, here we come! December 2024/January 2025: Part 2 – The preliminary planning


Dear Community,
We are excited to share with you the latest updates on our upcoming trip to Peru! The flight tickets are booked and the anticipation is growing. Here is our detailed plan:

Start in Lima

Arrival and first week in Lima:
Our journey begins in the capital Lima. We will spend the first seven days exploring this vibrant metropolis. Planned are:

- City tour: Visit the historic old town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with highlights such as the Plaza Mayor, the Cathedral of Lima and the Government Palace.
- Museum visits: Museo Larco with its impressive collection of pre-Columbian art and the Museo de la Nación.
- Culinary: Discover Peruvian cuisine in top restaurants such as Central, Maido and Astrid y Gastón as well as street food tours in Barranco and Miraflores.
- Culture and nightlife: Stroll through the artistic district of Barranco with its galleries, boutiques and lively nightlife.

On to Piura

Birthday and Christmas in Piura:
After a week in Lima, we will fly to Piura to celebrate my father-in-law's birthday. We will enjoy the time in Piura with the family and prepare for Christmas.

- Family celebration: Traditional birthday party with local specialties and music.
- Christmas preparations: participating in the festive preparations, decorating the house and shopping at local markets.

Visit from Germany

Second Christmas Day:
On the second day of Christmas our first two friends from Germany arrive in Piura.

Trip to Cachaquito and beaches of Máncora:
Together we drive to Cachaquito for a celebration and the next day we continue to the beaches around Máncora.

- Cachaquito: Participation in a local celebration with dance and music.
- Máncora: Relax on the beaches, surf, snorkel and enjoy fresh seafood in the beach restaurants.

Back to Piura for New Year's Eve

New Year in Piura:
At the turn of the year we return to Piura to celebrate New Year's Eve with the family.

- New Year's Eve: Traditional Peruvian New Year's Eve with fireworks, grape eating at midnight and celebration with friends and family.

New Year in Lima

One week in Lima and surroundings:
On New Year's Day we return to Lima. In the following week we will explore Lima and the surrounding area.

- Day trips: Visit Pachacamac, an important pre-Columbian temple complex south of Lima, and visit nearby beaches such as Punta Hermosa.
- Gastronomic experiences: Further discoveries of Peruvian cuisine, cooking classes and market visits.

New travel companions from Germany

Arrival of the next two travelers:
Our next two friends from Germany join us and together we go to Cusco.

Adventure in Cusco

A week in Cusco and surroundings:
We will spend a week in Cusco and discover the treasures of the Inca culture.

- Cusco City: City tour through the historic center with the Plaza de Armas, the Cathedral and the Temple of the Sun (Qorikancha).
- Sacred Valley of the Incas: Visit to Pisac, Ollantaytambo and the salt terraces of Maras.
- Machu Picchu: Hike the Inca Trail or take a train to Machu Picchu to explore the legendary ruined city.

Farewell and onward journey into the jungle

Journey into the Peruvian jungle:
After a week in Cusco, we say goodbye to our first companions and fly with the others into the jungle.

- Amazon Experience: Stay in a jungle lodge, boat trips on the Amazon, hikes in the rainforest, wildlife watching and visits to local villages.

Graduation in Lima

Last week in Lima:
Finally, we spend another week in Lima and the surrounding area before our trip ends and we head back home.

- Relaxation and sightseeing: Last minute shopping, relaxation and visits to sights we missed before.
